A recent UNICEF blog: [https://www.unicef.org.au/blog/news-and-insights/january-2020/unlikely-pen-pals].
The blog is created from letters sent by Australian children to the asylum seeker children held in detention – particularly those detained on Nauru. This was a project developed by Befriend a Child in Detention, an organisation based in Melbourne with supporters across the country. It resulted in many hundreds of letters from children in Australian schools, which we forwarded to the children in detention, folded inside beautiful donated new books. At a time when there was much negativity about refugees, our children demonstrated kindness, friendship and hope. They represent the best of us in a dark time.
Sincerely
(Dr) June Factor
